  • We are looking for someone with at least 1 year of experience in energy modelling. You should have the ability to independently develop simple energy models from A to Z (with support and review from our experienced Qualified Modellers.) Model updates like changes to glazing characteristics, fan power, or HRV efficiency should be straightforward for you.

    You should be familiar with building envelope thermal performance evaluation (R-value takeoffs using the Building Envelope Thermal Bridging Guide), be able to identify, describe, and model various types of HVAC systems, and be able to develop compliance models using the BC Energy Step Code and ZCSC, NECB, and ASHRAE 90.1. You should be comfortable obtaining modelling inputs from architectural, mechanical, and lighting drawings.

    There are also opportunities within this position to work on embodied carbon LCA, resilience analysis, policy support analysis, and research.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and update energy models using EnergyPlus, Sketchup, OpenStudio, and other tools

    • Interpret design drawings, conduct necessary calculations, develop required documentation with guidance from senior staff

    • Interpret and analyze results of energy models under direction of senior staff

    • Evaluate energy conservation measures and recommend strategies to improve building performance.

    • Prepare clear and concise written reports fully documenting analysis

    Qualifications and competencies:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

    • Eligibility to register as EIT or P.Eng. required

    • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in energy modelling

    • Experience using energy modelling software such as EnergyPlus, eQUEST, IES VE, DesignBuilder, or similar tools.

    • Understanding of envelope thermal performance, building mechanical systems, HVAC equipment, and energy-efficient design principles.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

    • Knowledge of Python an asset.

    This position will be primarily in-office at our Burnaby office.

    Regular travel is not anticipated for this position; occasional travel may be requested of you but is negotiable. You may be asked to attend meetings throughout the lower mainland. A car is not required for this position. 

    Salary $70k – $85k/year with competitive benefits including RRSP matching and company events.
